thepetebox.com - undeniable talent…

When I attended the Channel 4 4Talent Awards Party it was great to meet fellow award winner, thepetebox. Pete explained to me that his award was for his human beating boxing which is a talent that has not only taken him around the World but has also led to him being the face of the mobile phone company, Movistar’s TV adverts in Mexico! When I found out that Pete was beat boxing in Liverpool I had to head on over.
Pete rather nicely put myself and my brother on the guestlist for what turned out to be an incredible night. You will be aware that beat boxing is the ability to make music completely and utterly using your mouth - from the bass line, drums, vocals and everything else in between. Anything that you would hear on a commercial track, Pete can make such music with his mouth! I have to say I have seen beatboxers before but Pete was something else. thepetebox has added a unique twist to his set whereby he uses a loop machine which means that, live, he can record and play back the music that he makes - a personal highlight using this techinque was ’shalom’ which was layed as a six part harmony with beats and all the trimmings.
I was blown awat seeing Pete in action. Here is a guy who is chasing his dream and he is chasing it very well. Pete had it all from incredible beatboxing ability, awesome vocals and a brand and image that was 100% spot on. Pete is certainly going places which is evidently why he was picked for a Channel 4 4Talent Award.
Thepetebox is certainly going places and you will be hearing about him on a large scale very shortly. It is really inspiring to see people going for their dreams, their hopes and their vision. A real decent guy too.

“Freedom means the opportunity to be what we never thought we would be.” Daniel J Boorstin.
Powerful individuals who change lives, who change communities, who change the business world, who invent, who create, all have one thing in common… freedom.
I have been thinking a lot recently about freedom. Most of us are not free. Just yet, I am not free. We all have our own shackles and it is easy to place the blame of not being free on other ‘things’ and never taking responsibility ourelves. We blame our fears, our friends, our family and anyone else who we cane blame for holding us back - what would they say, what would they think, what would they do. We allow ourselves to never truly be free because we are running scared. Largely, we blame everybody else but ourselves for the fact that we have never really been free and gone all out for our dreams.
Freedom is the opportunity to be what we never thought we would be - this is a great statement and, I love it. However, I believe that the opportunity to be what we never thought we would be needs to be given TO ourselves BY ourselves.
I sincerely believe that if every individual sought to live their true potential they would throw off the shackles of fear that they have placed upon themselves and they would run with might, strength and power towards their goal.
Imagine, if you gave yourself the opportunity to be free - what would you achieve? What lives would you impact? What impact would the freedom that you have given yourself have on the World around you? In not being free, in not being you, you will have no idea what you are denying others and indeed what you are denying yourself.
One day I hope to be free. I hope that you will be free also. The World needs you to be.

I am happy to inform you that I have just moved into a lovely apartment in Liverpool City Centre, I love the place. Being in the heart of the City, especially as we near the European Capital of Culture celebrations is fantastic - there is heaps going on! This also enables me to be nearer the Liverpool Culture Cafe team as we work towards developing the concept in the city.
However, the bad news is that it is taking ages to set up internet in the appartment and it’s killing me! For the first few days I was enjoying not being tied to the internet, harnessing my facebook addiction and generally getting on with a number of things however, it is now becoming tedious as I struggle to get online.
Things have been slow in terms of getting onto broadband and so I am on dial up. These retro sounds bring back many memories.. the sound of the dial tone as the speakers connect to the line… the dialing of the number and the whur of activity as the connection is made. Although, it is so bloody slow. There is something that seems SO wrong about being on dial up via a MacBook Pro…
More to follow.. if I ever get on broadband!
