I feel like I should comment on Big Brother ‘07 but to be honest I dont have much to say.
One night is not enough to get a feel for this years inmates but there were certainly some characters who shone at the beginning. From what I can remember, the twins who loves pink and who kept informing eveyone who entered that they are ‘gorgeous’. There was the older woman who described herself as being clever but throughout the first programme was standing back from everyone else… erm, the girl who is the cousin of some footballer.. the raver woman who was, like ‘av it’ all over the place…. oh and the girl who reminded me of Vicky Pollard.
Whilst that is about it on the housemates it is interesting to see which direction the programme is taking this year. Paramount is a setting and a house layout which will cause the most annoyance including an oven in the bedroom and a frigde in the garden, this should bring about some interesting results.
Finally… all girls… I am certain that this wont last long. Surely they will get rid of half and bring some lads in at some point in the plot. All girls wont last forever, make up, hair, pink.. doesnt lead to much of an exciting show although the girly cat fights could be interesting.
I for one wont be following this too much and I was gutted that I had missed the Apprentice for BB07.

Is the BB format still working in the UK? I produced Big Brother in 06 here in Holland where its created, still generated a lot of views, most online.
They keep on coming up with spinoffs to attract viewers.
Giving birth live on tv, … whats next?… A terminally ill patient?
This Friday ‘The Big Donorshow’ starts on BNN (www.bnn.nl/page/donorshow) Dutch tv: “a programme in which a terminally ill woman selects one of three patients to receive her kidneys”.
I don’t think I will be watching that much. I watched the first one and a bit of the second but then it just got repetitive. The idea was great and I was quite excited about watching it, after reading a lot of articles on the subject.
Rob - thanks for this. Interesting to hear that you produced Big Brother 06 in Holland. BB has a huge following over here, in the UK, the concept of bringing people together in a house, a bunch of nobody and seeing what happens… the people just follow with high TV ratings. But, each year it gets whackier and whackier (sp?). This lead up to the Jade ‘racism’ saga in CBB. BB07 looks like it will go strong though and as soon as that is over we move over to ITV for X Factor!
I read about ‘The Big Donor show’ news of it hit the media here. But it would be interesting to see what the ACTUAL programme is like, keep me updated or I will see if I can follow online.
Damion - you wont be watching that much? Lets see if we get addicted!? I HOPE not to.
Mark, it turned out that the terminally ill patient was an actress, the three kidney patients were real, but part of the format.
When the terminally ill patient finally had to choose between the three patients, the presenter called it a time-out and told the 1,2 million viewers it was a set up.
They succesfully triggered the media and stressed the problem on the donor problem in holland (patients have to wait for an average of six year to get a transplant).
Yeah Rob I saw this in the news this morning. Really interesting. The minister of health in Holland stated that he did not believe that this was the best way to raise the profile of the Donor problem. I am not quite sure whether this has raised the profile of Endemol, the programmes maker, to a higher place than that of the need for Donor’s. This may have been the intention, Endemol back in the spotlight again. Not sure. But, it is interesting.
The donor show is an interesting one… I think it has served well for Edemol, its shareholders and the public. More importantly it has helped raise the issue of finding donors.
I remember seeing a UK donor spokesperson on pretty much every UK news channel after it was revealed to be a hoax and if just on person sees that and decides to donate something that saves a life then the job has done what it intended…
Good on Endemol I say, never afraid to challenge the boundaries.
I did blog about this more specifically today bud but you are right, the fact that Donor organisations got PR on the back of this is fantastic. This is a good point from a marketing guru!
